The Dance Between Sales and Finance

One of the core topics in the podcast is the delicate balance between Sales and Finance. Jean-Paul describes it aptly: “One of the anchor points within Credit Management is that eternal dance between Sales and Finance.” Danny agrees and emphasizes the importance of balance: “If a conflict arises between sales and finance, it creates negative energy—endless back-and-forth arguments that lead nowhere.”

The Unique Challenges of the Automotive Industry

Danny further explains how the mobility of cars brings unique risks: “In the car business, your asset is literally mobile; if it’s gone, that means a loss of 20K, 30K, or even 100K. You don’t earn that back quickly; you have to generate a lot of new sales just to compensate for that.” Managing these risks is crucial for a successful financial strategy.

The Importance of Knowledge and Assessment

When granting financing, Toyota Financial Services sometimes operates more strictly than banks. Danny explains: “In our profession, you have three parts: you have white, which is easy. You have black, which is also easy. But then you have a very large gray area where you can go left or right, and that’s where the importance of a good assessment—and thus knowledge of your customers—lies.”

The Ideal Atmosphere in a Credit Department

According to Danny, a well-functioning Credit Department is friendly and full of team spirit, but also rational and selective: “They have to be able to sell a ‘no.’ Because selling a ‘yes’ is easy, but explaining why a certain deal cannot go through in a professional, clear, and understandable way—that is an art.” Maintaining professionalism and objectivity is essential, even when personal relationships with dealers are at stake.

The Multidisciplinary Approach

A striking aspect of Toyota Financial Services is their inclusive and diverse team culture: “We are multicultural, multireligious, multidisciplinary, and multigenerational. That makes it super interesting but also challenging.” Danny shares how celebrating various cultural events, such as Eid al-Fitr and Sinterklaas, contributes to a close-knit and engaged work environment.

Never Overdue: A Reachable Goal?

Triple A Solutions’ slogan “Never Overdue” reflects their pursuit of perfection in Credit Management. Jean-Paul explains that this goal is achievable through an integrated approach to customer data, internal processes, and employee performance: “If you work on a horizontal integration of solid Credit Management across those three areas and levels, it can be feasible to reach a situation where there are no more overdue invoices.”
