In this episode of the Never Overdue Podcast, Jean-Paul Van Damme welcomes a special guest: John-Alexander Bogaerts, an entrepreneur through and through and the driving force behind B19, one of the most dynamic business clubs in Belgium. A conversation about entrepreneurship, perseverance, and how a simple idea can grow into a national network that brings SMEs and entrepreneurs together.
We share three key insights you should remember from this conversation:
1. Entrepreneurship is resilience
John-Alexander’s entrepreneurial story begins with trial and error. He speaks openly about how personal setbacks, such as a serious illness, strengthened rather than suppressed his drive. His message is clear: entrepreneurship is not about perfect circumstances, but about resilience and focus.

An important insight is that entrepreneurs often give up too quickly or sell shares too early. His advice: maintain control for as long as possible, seek support from people who provide financial insight, and never lose sight of cash flow. It is this discipline that makes companies survive in the long term.
2. Networking reinvented
With B19, John-Alexander wanted to offer an alternative to the classic, sometimes stuffy business clubs. No heavy dinners with protocols, but accessible after-work events, inspiring speakers, and encounters that generate real business.

What started as an idea in Brussels has today grown into a club with thousands of members, active in various Belgian cities and even beyond. The success lies in its simplicity: meet new people, do business, and learn from each other.
3. Investing in the next generation
In addition to B19, John-Alexander is also one of the initiators behind École 19, the Belgian version of the French École 42, a revolutionary coding school without teachers. This project gives young people, often from underprivileged backgrounds, the chance to develop digital skills and take their future into their own hands.

His vision is clear: the new generation is better adapted to today’s challenges and deserves support and opportunities. By not only educating them but also giving them self-confidence, entrepreneurs and professionals emerge who help shape the future.
